As much as we take pride in our landscaping efforts, for most of us mowing the lawn is still more of a chore than a pleasant pastime. Thanks to the engineers who designed the Robomow, however, you might actually be able to enjoy mowing your lawn.
Robomow’s mowers are a sort of cross between a Roomba and a remote-controlled car. The company offers a number of different models to accommodate different size lawns up to ¾ of an acre. They advertise a number of advantages over other robotic mowers such as stronger blades and wider wheel bases that allow them to do precise edging work.
The Robomow can be programmed and controlled with an app for iOS and Android devices that connects to the mower via Bluetooth. Using the app, homeowners can set up a mowing schedule, tell the robot whether or not it should edge the lawn and designate blackout times when the mower should stay home. The automated functionality of the mower is pretty handy, but it’s not half as fun as the ability to take manual control with your smartphone.
In manual mode, users can steer the Robomow around their lawn using a virtual joystick on their smartphone’s touch screen. Reviewers have compared the experience to playing a video game. It’s a useful feature that allows homeowners to access hard-to-reach places that the mower might otherwise miss. It’s also just plain cool to be able to mow your lawn with a robot that can be controlled like the RC car you had when you were a kid. With a price tag that starts at $1,000, the Robomow might not be for everyone, but let’s be honest – it’s hard not to get excited about the prospect of having a robot do your chores for you.
